I’ve just shipped my second Chrome extension, Nice Note Taker! 🎉 It’s a huge upgrade over the first one, Fast Note Taker. 🚀 I built it from scratch, which took 12.5 hours of coding ⏱️, compared to just 5.4 hours for the old version. The new extension comes with several features and a new design: A better design for the extension popup and notes manager. 🎨 Fixes for some weird bugs in Fast Note Taker. 🐞 A cute and elegant design. 💖 The ability to edit or delete the URL of a website before saving a note (in case you want to remove sensitive data from the URL or simply prefer not to include it in your notes). ✂️ More search filters to easily find old notes. 🔍 ...and more! ✨ See the difference for yourself in the photos! 📸 Want to test it?🖱️ bit.ly/3Z7F7Yn Want to see the code? here is the repo link💻: github.com/kokojkj/nice-note-taker

Update on Brainwave, I was super busy this week so haven't worked on it for a while, but I had some time today so I implemented most of the AI and database logic. I am using the Vercel AI sdk with openai as provider which works super well with nextjs. Currently its basically just a worse ChatGPT, but this is the base needed for what my plans are for Brainwave. Excited to work on the features that make it unique tomorrow :yay: Darn it the video didnt embed :blobhaj_sad_reach: Check next post..

I made my first open source contribution today! The hackclub map here which is embed in multiple pages like toolbox has some problems. First it doesn't has a max-zoom out limit so users can zoom out as much as they want causing this:(1st image). Also it doesn't has translations for names of places written in local languages.(2nd image) So I added a max-zoom out limit and also used a Tile Layer that has translations for these local scriptures.(3rd image) This is the pull-request, hope so It gets accepted! wish me luck :)

With High Seas kicking off, I thought starting a scrapbook would be cool! I've been brainstorming project ideas, and one that’s stuck with me is building something like ChatGPT—but for schools. The idea is to make a tool packed with features for teachers and students, helping schools adapt to AI and teach it in a way that keeps everyone up to speed. I haven't settled on a name yet, but I'm currently considering something like "Brainwave". I am planning to build Brainwave using React/Next.js, OpenAI API, Shadcn/ui, and Supabase! :supabase: :vercel: :openai: :react: Spent a few hours today recreating the ChatGPT UI as a starting point. The concept should become clearer as it develops, but I’m excited to see where it goes from here!

hiii 1 more launch! this one's the kicker, and I don't see any reason I can't share it with you guys! this summer, I built BioRSP (Biological Radar Scanning Plots)—an open-source tool that took a huge amount of time, effort, and dedication LOL I barely got sleep working BioRSP is designed to enhance the analysis of single-cell gene expression patterns by simulating radar-like scanning across cell clusters. It’s a major step forward in bioinformatics, particularly for those of us focused on spatial transcriptomics and understanding cellular heterogeneity. What does that mean? Imagine trying to figure out what’s going on at a massive concert. You can hear some people singing loudly, others talking quietly, and some areas where it’s just silent. But if you were up in the sky with a radar, you could scan the crowd from different angles and figure out exactly where the loudest singers are, where groups of people are talking, and where it’s completely quiet. In a similar way, BioRSP helps scientists "scan" groups of cells to find out which ones are "singing" (expressing genes) the loudest, which ones are "whispering," and which ones are silent. This tool is super important for discovering new insights about how cells work together in tissues, like in our hearts or brains. Basically, I wanted it to be a completely new way to visualize and analyze spatial gene expression patterns. Currently, prelim results show that it outperforms traditional methods, like Polar Gini Curves, in detecting subtle and significant spatial patterns. I've also successfully used in a case study involving neonatal mouse heart tissue :blahaj-heart: I'm incredibly proud of this project, and I’m excited to share it with y'all FINALLY see how it can help researchers - I also published this as an actual preprint (doi.org/10.1101/2024.06.25.599250) (yes yes actually im legit researcher now much wow) GitHub: github.com/alphamind-club/biorsp Arcade: hackclub.com/arcade/showcase/project/recsjvs3JgjIAlb7w (if u get my project, I rly hope you can vote for it LAWL I submitted 2 projects that I felt were the most meaningful and technically me-representing instead of 20 coughs)

This morning I felt bad about skimping out on low skies & having a weak GitHub graph, so I made the plan to make a project every day for the next week. This evening, I realized that this is possibly the worst week I could have picked in at least the surrounding 3 months. I still managed to make some good progress on a fun little idea, so here it is: I was inspired by Club Fair Attention Monopoly to make Fortune Phone (better name pending): A little website for club fairs, where when you text the phone number on screen, the last four digits of your phone number appear along with an ominous fortune generated by AI. So far, I've written pretty much all of the UI, but I've been staring at the screen so long I can't tell if it looks good or not. I genuinely think I spent the most time just working on the 'crystal ball'. anyway, yap over, here's day #1 of 'work on literally anything' for a week straight. anyone else is welcome to join me

Shipping from my laptop straight to Nest (after this, going to setup systemd service unit file first) before #C07PZMBUNDS| ends (please vote for me to get some :sky-scales:), it's @HackClubLeeks ! It's a Slack app companion for #C06089401GT| for data sleuths at Hack Club Slack with a review queue similar to how #CNMU9L92Q| work to avoid abuse and false flags for those who want to spot the leaks minus the copy-and-paste-da-permalink part. Don't worry, leeks flagged through the bot are anonymous but logged the user ID of the first person to flag for moderation purposes. Simply react with :leeks: or privately flag as leek via message actions on channels like #C05SVRTCDGV| and #C054QL5JHU0| (or even #C01FXNNF6F2| if you seriously want to FAFO with the FD). Found a bug or want to coordinate a patch/merge request or just want to help review the possible leeks in the queue? No problemo, hop into #C07T2EP4PLZ|. The source code is licensed under MPL-2.0 with the block builder library from Prox2 under MPL-2.0 AND AGPL-3.0 (apologies for SPDX-License-Identifier speak), and even has a GitHub mirror for Low Skies and visibility reasons.
